Hi Karl, you need to download the maps inside CoPilot Live Premium application. We don't have a way at the moment to download outside of the app.

Hi, you mean it is only possible by handy net, not by wifi or copilot central!?

You can download the maps within the app using WiFi or 3G, although WiFi is recommended as 3G can be a slower and less reliable connection

Any chance of computer access to download maps? Some of us don't have wi-fi and pay for our data...

You can download CoPilot Central 2 at http://www.copilotlive.com/central as this now supports CoPilot Live Premium for Android. However you will still need to download the maps, so you will need a WiFi connection to your router or a tethered cable to your router.

To download the maps we would recommend that you have a high speed internet connection and not a dial-up connection.

The sole reason I bought this app was to avoid paying exorbitant data fees to my phone service. I don't have a plan that will allow me to download 2gb of data. What am I supposed to do? Why advertise this as a standalone solution when the first thing you have to do is get on the network and download 2 gigs of data?

Hi, I just bought CoPilot Live Premium. It appears to be a great product.

HOWEVER, after entering the product/registration key, the CoPilot app specifically states that, to activate product, you can use EITHER "mobile Internet connection" OR "desktop computer."

1. I cannot find how to choose to activate via "desktop computer"- there is no button or menu option to choose that option.

2. How can we use CoPilot Central to download the maps necessary to use CoPilot Live Premium?

Please keep in mind that, as a previous customer stated, a major selling point of this program is it's independence from the internet.

Otherwise, why spend money on this product when there are free products like Google Maps that include free traffic, free local search, free pictures, and free satellite imagery?

So Dave, now that 9 months have gone by, would you care to update your response?

1776.jessee,

I don't want to defend CoPilot too much as they have been very poor at bug fixing and responses to problems, but your comment about Google Maps etc. are not quite correct, it is not really free as you need a data connection which must cost you money at some point, no provider gives it away free, whereas once you have downloaded the maps into CoPilot it doesn't need a data link any more. Also, I believe that Google doesn't have turn by turn instructions.

I agree that it would be a much better solution to be able to download maps and manage your account etc. via your PC like most other satnavs.

@dickyboy - you may not be aware that there are free apps available that will cache google maps which you can download using your PC over broadband and then transferring them to your pocket pc/android/iphone.
